Hoy nos hemos acordado del paper sobre los MOOC aceptado por el International Congress Ikasnabar 2013 6º Congreso Internacional de Educación Abierta y Tecnología que se celebró en Zalla  y que escribimos al alimón er torito @eraser Juan Calderón, con Ainhoa Ezeiza y Mertxe Jimeno (que podéis leer en nuestro post del jueves, 11 de julio de 2013 La falsa disrupción de los MOOC. La invasión de un modelo obsoleto. @ainhoaeus @eraser @mertxejbadiola en #ikasnabar13) ...en el que hablábamos de la invasión publicitaria de los MOOC y su falsa disrupción como modelo  de aprendizaje y otras cosillas...  así que hoy traemos a este espacio , gracias al twitter de  @pgnalda ..  (por cierto , mencantó me llamara camionero ... ;-) )

Así que aquí tienen, la noticia de la alianza del georgia Tech college of Computing, que se alía con at & t y Udacity (MOOC) .. y crean un MOOC .... Master on Line of Science in Computer Science ... "open" ( The courses will be online and free for those not seeking a degree; those in the degree program will take proctored exams and have access to tutoring, online office hours and other support.)  para el que no quiera certificado y por 6.600 $ dólares según el New York Times , según 7.000 $ según la Georgia Tech   si quieres certificación oficial ... 45.000 $ es el costo en presencial en la Georgia tech ..  ahhhh!!! se me olvidaba AT&T pone en el asunto una donación de 2 millones de $ lo que me ha recordado unas palabras de Bertolt Brecht de 1939 (jafotito arrecogida gracias al hiper twittero mexicano apañero en la #guerrillaonirica ... ;-) salúos y salú desde Zeviya CalYFlato IndePendiente

"The plan is for Georgia Tech to provide the content and professors and to get 60 percent of the revenue, and for Udacity to offer the computer platform, provide course assistants and receive the other 40 percent. The projected budget for the test run starting in January is $3.1 million — including $2 million donated by AT&T, which will use the program to train employees and find potential hires — with $240,000 in profits. By the third year, the projection is for $14.3 million in costs and $4.7 million in profits."

The Georgia Institute of Technology, Udacity and AT&T have teamed up to offer the first accredited Online Master of Science in Computer Science (OMS CS) that students can earn exclusively through the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) delivery format and for a fraction of the cost of traditional, on-campus programs.

This collaboration brings together leaders in education, MOOCs and industry to apply the disruptive power of massively open online teaching to widen the pipeline of high-quality, educated talent needed in computer science fields. Not only will OMS CS serve as a catalyst for transformational change throughout higher education, it could serve as a blueprint to help the United States address the current shortage of workers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields.

The Georgia Institute of Technology College of Computing announced today that it will offer the first professional Online Master of Science degree in computer science (OMS CS) that can be earned completely through the “massive online” format. The degree will be provided in collaboration with online education leader Udacity Inc. and AT&T.

All OMS CS course content will be delivered via the massive open online course (MOOC) format, with enhanced support services for students enrolled in the degree program. Those students also will pay a fraction of the cost of traditional on-campus master’s programs; total tuition for the program is initially expected to be below $7,000. A pilot program, partly supported by a generous gift from AT&T, will begin in the next academic year. Initial enrollment will be limited to a few hundred students recruited from AT&T and Georgia Tech corporate affiliates. Enrollment is expected to expand gradually over the next three years.

“Georgia Tech’s vision is to define the technological research university of the 21st century. We will explore technologies and instructional approaches that will improve our role as a leading provider of the best and most effective education in the state of Georgia, the nation and the world,” said Rafael L. Bras, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech has been involved in online education for more than 30 years, and in the past year has taken a national leadership role in massive open online courses. Offering a master’s degree in this format is the next step in expanding Georgia Tech’s online offerings.

Zvi Galil, the dean of the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The institute plans to offer a master’s degree in computer science through massive open online courses, or MOOCs.

Next January, the Georgia Institute of Technology plans to offer a master’s degree in computer science through massive open online courses for a fraction of the on-campus cost, a first for an elite institution. If it even approaches its goal of drawing thousands of students, it could signal a change to the landscape of higher education. 

But the courses have not yet produced profound change, partly because they offer no credit and do not lead to a degree. The disruption may be approaching, though, as Georgia Tech, which has one of the country’s top computer science programs, plans to offer a MOOC-based online master’s degree in computer science for $6,600 — far less than the $45,000 on-campus price.
